search engine optimisation

what is seo?

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is optimising a website by using the best practices and techniques to improve the positioning or ranking of your web pages in SERP’s (search engine results pages) from search engines such as Google.

There is no quick fix or hidden shortcuts when trying to increase your ranking for Google with your desired keywords or key phrases. Google is constantly changing it’s algoryhtms, which makes it a moving target and determines how well it ranks your website by it’s own set of rules and not ours. It’s our job to try and keep up.

SEO is a time consuming, constantly evolving process which takes a great deal of research and patience to achieve desired results. Having an SEO campaign is an investment for your business if you want to increase long lasting organic traffic to your site over time.

In the current landscape Google will rank sites that play by a certain set of fundamentals. Just some of these fundamentals when getting your SEO right are:

Technical SEO

This is anything that effects the performance, visibility and how search engines interact with your website. Indexing, crawling, load speed, does it function on all devices? to name a few.

On-Page SEO

This is not just content on the website that is visable to others, it’s elements that are only visable to the bots that crawl your website, HTML elements, tags, structured data.

Off Page SEO

This is anything that isn’t on your website. Off page SEO is about building authority, trust and relevance. Think social media, back links to your website from trusted sources etc.

PPC (Pay-Per-Click) Versus Organic SEO

Pay per click adverts can provide instantaneous bursts of traffic to your website whilst organic SEO improves your ranking over time and delivers consistent traffic for free over the long term.

Over the years I’ve heard far too often how pay per click campaigns have ultimately emptied the pockets of unsuspecting customers without delivering the desired results. That’s why it’s my opinion that organic page listings are a far more effective marketing strategy when increasing traffic to your website which ultimately creates more leads, awareness to your brand and essentially, paying customers.
